Rumsfeld says we need 'em.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said the U.S. will keep extra soldiers in Iraq to counter the growing offensive by militants opposed to the U.S.-led occupation."We have a larger number'' of troops in Iraq at present because forces are being rotated, Rumsfeld told reporters at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. "We're taking advantage of that increase to allow these seasoned troops'' to "see the current situation through.''
Exactly when will this "current situation" end. Is he talking about the increasing violence? Or the Iraq occupation altogether?
The fact is that we need more "boots on the ground." They did not plan for things going badly after Saddam's regime was toppled. They expected rose petals and weeping women kneeling in front of our soldiers. All it takes is to close down a newspaper and arrest a few key people, and then you have the current mess that is unfurling by the hour.
No plan for the peace = War in the streets.
