Furthur proof that some on the right want to completely destroy freedom of speech. Or basically any freedom that let’s you make a choice that goes against what the President believes.
There has recently appeared a Web site calling itself “Move America Forward” — which in turn is being promoted by the right-wing Web site NewsMax — that is dedicated to shutting down showings of Fahrenheit 9/11, at least in part by urging the public to contact theater owners directly. The result, according to What Really Happened, is that some of these owners “are reporting receiving death threats.”
Nice. The entire Orcinus post details attacks or other various threats against people with opposing viewpoints. It’s all real scary. I get a little agitated whenever I see a Bush/Cheney ‘04 bumper sticker on someone’s vehicle. But will I have to start looking out for rocks being thrown at my car because I have a John Kerry sticker on my rear window? This behavior is being fueled by the arrogance that seeps out from the top. The “My Way or the Highway” type of thinking. Orcinus puts it quite well.
None of this will ever be directly connected to George W. Bush, of course. There’s no need. There are too many people out there willing to do whatever it takes to keep him in office. Whatever it takes.
It’s kind of scary just to think how far “Whatever it takes” will go in the effort to get Bush reelected.
