By far, Bush's split screen reactions overshadow any weak point he was trying to make. You can sum it up in one word.
Presidential.
As in Kerry looked the part and Bush looked, well, like a hunched-over college frat boy who woke up late for debate team practice.

Kerry got an unexpected but enormously helpful assist from FOX, which controlled all of the camera shots every network used. They didn't follow the debate "agreement", and showed the split-screen views that caught Chimpy in all his petulant splendor-- precisely what the Bush team had been fearing.
Also, whatever concession Kerry's debate negotiators made for the 50" podiums was absolutely worth it.
