Bernard Kerik apologized to President Bush on Saturday after questions about the immigration status of a housekeeper-nanny he employed led the former New York City police commissioner to withdraw his nomination as homeland security chief.

This story blew me away. How anybody on the WH staff thought it was a wise decision to trust what Kerik told them is beyond me. The WaPo's story came at it from the angle that the vetting process was rushed. I think they're just incompetent - and think that they can get away with ANYTHING. And they really can as long as the press stays quiet.
